Measure input match, each transmission path and output isolation with the unused ports terminated according to the divider's specification.
How it works in practice
A two-port VNA can characterize a three-port device through separate connections, but changing connections introduces uncertainty. Keep reference planes consistent and use appropriate terminations. Measure relative amplitude and phase over the required band, not just a single point.
Example and interpretation
S21 and S31 describe separate input-to-output paths when port 1 is the input and the numbering matches the device definition.
Checks before use
- Document port numbers
- Calibrate the interfaces
- Terminate the unused port
- Measure every required path
Important limit
Do not leave a third port open unless that is the specified test condition.
