RF Divider Input Match and Load Conditions

SMA coaxial two-way RF power divider with CentronRF watermark

A divider's input match depends on its design and the loads connected to its outputs. Follow the specified termination conditions.

How it works in practice

An open or mismatched branch can change reflected energy and coupling in the network. Isolation may reduce interactions but does not remove every effect. Evaluate the divider with the intended branch equipment when system accuracy matters, or use rated matched terminations for unused outputs.

Example and interpretation

A measured input VSWR with both outputs matched may differ after one output is left open.

Checks before use

  • Check branch impedances
  • Terminate unused ports
  • Measure the installed configuration
  • Verify source tolerance

Important limit

A datasheet match value is conditional on its stated port loads.
